I was first introduced to Project Morrinho in June of 2009 when I was paired to volunteer with them through the Iko Poran organization.  I needed to take a few weeks off and “decompress” after a very busy year pursuing a career while going to graduate school.  And what better place to do this but Rio de Janeiro!?!  I had no idea what I would find at Project Morrinho and was so warmly welcomed by the Morrinho Team.  The Morrinho model left me in awe with the amount of detail that was put into the model to recreate what I recognized to be such an important important social message.  I’ve since returned to my home in Miami, and am using their documentary, “Morrinho:  God Knows Everything But Is Not a Snitch,” and my accounts of the organization as an important teaching tool in my high school history classroom.

After seeing “God Knows Everything, But Is Not A Snitch,” I feel like we can all relate to this story.  Teenager’s especially.  I mean we use the word snitching a lot.  And a lot of that takes place here.  And others can even relate to the violent consequences of snitching in this particular situation - killing being the main one.  In our world, snitching is “not cool.”  We just don’t do it.  It’s what’s called social suicide.  The smartest thing to do is pretend you didn’t see it. That’s what our generation taught us.  I was moved by this because, if we were to snitch, we would maybe get into a fight of some sort.  But In these little boys’ world, they would be killed for this.

Extremely moving on how these boys epitomize “resiliency”.  Thank you for sharing their story
